Jack and Jill of America Ann Arbor Welcomes MLK Day Donations

ANN ARBOR, Mich., January 13, 2023—The Ann Arbor Chapter of Jack and Jill of America will be holding its 2nd Annual Baby Supply Drive on Monday, January 16th.

More than 20 mothers and youth will be on hand at the Bethel AME Church Ann Arbor from 1pm to 3pm to receive donations for Washtenaw County families in need. Donors can easily give back to deserving families on MLK Day, with no contact, by driving up with donations in their trunks to 900 John A. Woods Drive in Ann Arbor, while volunteers unload.

The Jack and Jill Ann Arbor Chapter has partnered with Michigan Medicine to collect donations that will benefit many of the 4,000 families served by SOS Community Services.

“Community service for mothers and children is one of the core principles of Jack and Jill,” said Brandy Merritt, Jack and Jill Ann Arbor Chapter President. “Our organization understands that if we want to impact the lives of all children, we must support our community together, side by side with our children, to instill a lifelong commitment to service.”

On this annual Jack and Jill of America, Inc. National Day of Service community partners are joining together to make a positive difference in the lives of so many.

“Working together, we have an even greater impact as we address the social needs of our patients and community,” said Alfreda Rooks, Director of Michigan Medicine Community Health Services and Programs for Multicultural Health. “We see our partnership as assisting with the development of future health care leaders.”

This is an opportunity for Jack and Jill youth, ages 5-19, to grow in their commitment to helping those who need it most.
“As kids and teens, we are change agents. It’s up to us to create a better world for ourselves and for future generations,” said Mashod Evans, Jr., Jack and Jill Ann Arbor Teen President.

Rana Smith the SOS Community Services Children’s Services Director says the donations will be a saving grace and this event is a true representation of Martin Luther King Jr.’s beliefs.

“King once said, ‘You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love’ to serve,” Smith recalls. “Jack and Jill embodies all of that, and more, and that love and grace is going back into our community who needs it.”
